International Credit Union Day: Cooperation for a Prosperous World

Each October, credit unions around the world celebrate International Credit Union (ICU) Day, honoring the spirit of cooperation that drives the credit union movement. This year’s theme, “Cooperation for a Prosperous World,” highlights how credit unions work together to empower communities, promote financial well-being, and create opportunities for all.

TAPCO Credit Union proudly joined forces with Sound Credit Union, Harborstone Credit Union, O Bee Credit Union, Gesa Credit Union, and ACU to celebrate this year’s event. Together, we partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs to bring the day’s theme to life through hands-on volunteer projects at two locations in Tacoma and Lakewood.

A team of 10 TAPCO employees spent the day helping staff prepare for the Club’s upcoming Trunk-or-Treat event. Volunteers built a haunted house for the kids, decorated classrooms and doors, and helped clean and refresh shared spaces. The day was filled with creativity, laughter, and teamwork, all focused on creating a fun and welcoming environment for local youth.

“We had a lot of fun being creative and working alongside other credit unions for a great cause,” said Gabriela Madrigal-Garcia, TAPCO’s Community Relations & Event Coordinator. “It’s a reminder of how much we can accomplish when we come together to support our community.”

At TAPCO, we believe cooperation is at the heart of community progress. By working together with our credit union partners, we’re helping create a stronger, more prosperous South Sound, one project, one partnership, and one act of kindness at a time.
