Summer Travel & ATM Safety

Headed out on vacation? Make sure your money stays safe with these summer travel and ATM safety tips.

Summer is a time for adventure, rest, and creating memories. Whether you're planning a road trip or flying out of town, a little preparation can go a long way in keeping your money and identity safe while you travel.

At TAPCO, we want your summer to be stress-free. That’s why we’ve put together these simple travel safety tips to help protect your debit and credit cards on the go.

1. Watch for ATM Skimmers

Use ATMs in well-lit, busy locations, preferably inside a bank or credit union. Before inserting your card, check for anything loose or unusual around the card reader or keypad. If it looks off, walk away.

2. Let Us Know Before You Go

Setting a travel notice lets us know your out-of-town transactions are legitimate. Just log in to Online Banking or give us a call at (253) 565-9895.

3. Use Credit Over Debit When Possible

Credit cards often offer stronger fraud protections and can limit direct access to your checking account. They’re a smart choice for hotel deposits, gas stations, or unfamiliar shops.

4. Monitor Your Accounts Often

Check your accounts regularly for suspicious activity. TAPCO’s mobile app makes it easy to stay on top of your balance, set alerts, and lock your card if needed.

5. Don’t Share Your PIN or Card Info

Even if someone claims to be from TAPCO, never share your card number or PIN. We will never ask for that information via text, phone, or email.

Wherever summer takes you, TAPCO is here to help you bank securely. If you see something unusual or need help while you travel, don’t hesitate to contact us.
