Community

Rooted in South Sound.

At TAPCO, we're dedicated to our members and the community we serve. While striving to provide the highest quality of products and services for our members, we are also dedicated to supporting several local community events and projects during the year that support our mission. Our employees generously donate their time and money to support these community programs. Together with our members and community partners, we are committed to making a positive impact in our community.

Maritime Gig Festival Gig Harbor

Maritime Gig Festival - Gig Harbor

TAPCO was a proud sponsor of the 2022 Maritime Gig Festival on Gig Harbor's Waterfront. TAPCO booth offered all kinds of goodies for kids and their parents, along with sponsoring the popular bounce house. We are glad to have this event back in the community after a 2-year absence.

Foss Waterway Seaport Pollinator Garden

The Foss Waterway Seaport had a vision of beautifying its Dock Street frontage while supporting the environment. Team TAPCO was there to help bring the Pollinator Garden to life by planting the plants in the new garden. Plants that attract bees and other pollinators will help the natural ecosystem stay strong.

United Way Senior Kits

United Way of Pierce County

Team TAPCO came together on this employee-driven project, collecting items to create Senior Care Kits for local residents. The items collected included chapstick, hand sanitizer, cups, adult coloring books, pens & paper. The United Way of Pierce County will put the kits to good use in the community.

Raising Girls

To help Celebrate Women's History Month, Team TAPCO gathered feminine hygiene products and other toiletries for the  local organization Raising Girls. "Raising Girls aims to help ensure that all girls feel pride in who they are and understand the power they have to be unique individuals, who can make a difference.”

Food Backpacks 4 Kids

TAPCO Gig Harbor heard the call for cheese from the local non-profit Food Backpacks 4 Kids and went into action to deliver the cheddar. Team TAPCO was able to provide over 80 cheese items for Food Backpacks 4 Kids will distribute to hungry and food-insecure children and their families living on the Key Peninsula and in Gig Harbor.

Lions 4 Kids House

TAPCO Bonney Lake helped support the Lions 4 Kids House in December with not only a donation of gifts, toys & necessities but also volunteering time with the organization. The Lions 4 Kids House is ran by the Bonney Lake Lions Club and provides children in need with clothing, personal care items, school supplies, and gifts during the holidays.

Food drive 2021

TAPCO Food Drive

TAPCO Branches supported Emergency Food Network and Nourish Food Bank throughout November 2021.  Members were encouraged to drop off food donations when visiting a branch. TAPCO also accepted monetary donations as part of the food drive. In total, members and staff raised over 700 items of food and $726 in monetary donations. With the help of TAPCO, each community partner was given a check for $500 in addition to the non-perishable food items.

Puget Sound Pet Food Bank

Team TAPCO loves pets and knows the joy they bring to so many people's lives. TAPCO staff recently donated pet food, treats, and cat litter to the Puget Sound Pet Food Bank in Tacoma (with a second location in Spanaway). The Pet Food Bank distributes pet food and supplies to rescue, veteran, and homeless programs in our community along with local food banks.

Comprehensive Life Resources

TAPCO Main Branch supported Comprehensive Life Resources (CLR) and their Wrap Around Intensive Service (WISe) clients by donating Halloween costumes in October 2021. WISe is available to Medicaid-eligible children and youth 20 years or younger with complex emotional, behavioral, and social issues. Halloween costumes also came with candy and other goodies for the kids to enjoy this season!

TAPCO staff enjoyed supporting this non-profit and current TAPCO shirt sales are supporting Comprehensive Life Resources through the end of the year. Take a look!

2021 International Credit Union Day

Team TAPCO was out in the community for International Credit Union Day! ICU Day celebrates the spirit of the global credit union movement. The day is recognized to reflect upon the credit union movement's history, promote its achievements, recognize hard work and share member experiences.

TAPCO had two teams out in the community. One team helped restore natural vegetation at Titlow Park by removing invasive blackberry bushes, planting native plants and laying mulch. The other team removed old bark around the Bonney Lake Public Safety building and replaced it with rocks, along with spreading mulch.

Metro Animal Shelter

Metro Animal Shelter

TAPCO staff made blankets to support the Metro Animal Shelter in Puyallup. There crafting skills will help our furry friends to be more comfortable and warm. In addition, staff donated pet food, treats and toys. Metro Animal Shelter protects and unites pets through support, advice, licensing and adoption of pets to their forever home.

TAPCO staff loves supporting the community and looks forward to any opportunity to give back.

2020 Donations & Sponsorships Exceed $40,000

While COVID impacted our ability to attend some of our favorite events, it did not stop us from supporting our community!

TAPCO is grateful for each of these organizations, and how they play a role in keeping Pierce County strong. These organizations were chosen because they align with the our mission of “Improving lives by partnering with families to reach their goals.” Each organization exemplifies respect and care to those who need it most.

Together, in collaboration with our community partners, TAPCO continues to support our neighbors in Peirce County. TAPCO – South Sound strong since 1934!

National Night Out

City of Fircrest National Night Out

In partnership with the Fircrest Police Department and 16,000 neighborhoods across the nation, National Night Out is our opportunity to celebrate the summer, our community, and the strong ties we share with our local law enforcement. Every year, we look forward to taking the first Tuesday in August to get to know our neighbors.

6th Avenue Santa Parade

On a chilly Sunday night in December, you can find Team TAPCO marching along 6th Avenue spreading Christmas cheer with jolly carolers and Santa Claus following closely behind. We’re proud to sponsor this fun, festive family event to kick off the holiday season with our friends at the 6th Avenue Business District.

Art on the Ave

Art on the Ave

From State to Alder, Art on the Ave is Tacoma’s biggest festival! We turn the parking lot of our 6th Avenue branch into a stage for a summer afternoon full of live music, art, and uniquely Tacoma culture. With friends, neighbors, and creatives lining the street with a beer in hand, this summer festival is not to be missed!

Tacoma Farmer’s Market Apple-A-Day

For five years and counting, we’ve had the pleasure of serving as the title sponsor of the Tacoma Farmer’s Market Apple-A-Day program. In partnership with the market, this service benefits children and families in Pierce County by expanding access to fresh fruits and vegetables across all farmer’s market locations. We’re proud to support a program that celebrates local farmers and creates lifelong healthy eaters! Come see Moola the Cash Cow every third Thursday during the Broadway market season.

Credit Union Lunch Local Day

Each fall, we join thousands of credit unions around the country to dine out “cash mob” style in support of the local, small businesses that make our communities great. By taking our lunch break to order in from the deli on the corner or to grab a cup of coffee from a locally-owned espresso stand (while encouraging our members to join us), we’re taking a stand in support of local businesses in our community.

Polar Plunge

You can always count on Team TAPCO to be freezin’ for a reason as we brave the icy waters of the Puget Sound at the Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Washington. In partnership with the Crime Stoppers of Tacoma and Pierce County, our team fundraising efforts help support 18,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities across Washington State. The cold is temporary—but the impact isn’t!
